About Us & the Farm

Home CSA Scotch Highlands Herb & Herb Classes About Us & Our Farm

Bill & I married in March, 2007 and while I stay home and run the CSA & farm, Bill, a retired Army officer,  works for the government now at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL, and returned from a years tour in Afghanistan in October 2009.  He does all the heavy stuff and major maintenance that begrudgingly I have to admit I need help with on weekends or in the evenings as time permits.

We have lots of pets on the farm to keep us entertained and busy.  Molly, our Olde English Sheepdog, leads the pack with Freckles (collie mix), and Shelly, our Black Lab, and Cleo, our Great Pyrenees, who patrols the property each night to keep everyone safe from harm.  We are both cat people and right now have 17.  Elvis, Madison, Christopher, Faya, Mittens, Midnight, Dot, Sweet Pea, Tom, Mufasa, Walter, Cocoa (a chocolate brown cat),  Tinkerbelle, Socksie, Champagne, Grover, and the latest stray, Tillie.  Tillie was found in the parking lot at my granddaughters church and when they called and said, "Nana, can we bring this cute, little kitten to your house. (Yes, that is 17 cats total) All have been spayed or neutered and most are adoptees of the pound or just showed up. Four were bottle babies after their mother got mastitis and couldn't nurse them. That is an interesting experience. (No, we don't need any more.)

Also residing at the farm along with the Highlands and Babydoll sheep are Smokey, granddaughter Rachel's quarter horse, and two Halflinger horses, Morgan and Mattie.  We have a constantly growing number of laying hens of every make and model, a trio of turkey toms, a Bourbon Red, Royal Palm, Spanish White, and a wonderful Bourbon Red hen, Lucy II, who keeps them strutting their tail feathers. We also have Ring-necked, Golden Reds, and Lady Amherst pheasants, quail and a partridge in a pear tree.  My mother and ex-mother-in-law, who are both two of my best friends continually fuss at me for taking in strays.

You will also hear about my other children, Melissa and husband Travis, with granddaughters Madison (11), Keira (5), and grandson Keith (1) who live in Pensacola.  Michelle and husband Kirby, with granddaughters Rachel and Carrie, who live here in Pulaski with grand daughters, Rachel (11) and Carrie (9).  Dana lives partly here and partly near Woodbury, TN,  and helps out on the farm and with the CSA.  Close families ties are a wonderful thing to have.

Bill has two children, Ryan who just graduated from Auburn and got married to Mary Ann in January, 2008, and lives in Huntsville, AL.  His daughter, Ashley, started college at Alabama in the fall of 2007, and is the sports athletic training program.  All are football fans, so he is constantly torn and having to change shirts, depending on which one he is having dinner with.  He of course has a house divided flag.  I personally  think they are all wrong and should be Vols fans and wear Orange.

We love to have visitors at the farm and have hiking trails and a picnic area for guests.  Call and make sure we will be around and come see us.  Bring the kids, grandkids or just yourself.  Wear clothes you can get dirty or a change of clothing for the kids, so they can play and hold the baby chicks, cats and chase the dogs.  Always bring muck shoes, because we are a farm and have farm droppings.

I will try my best to update the farm blog with pictures and information on what we are doing on the farm.  Check in weekly to see what is happening on the farm.  There is never a dull moment around here and always something to do.  If you are bored, come visit and we will put you to work or play as we call it.
